YOU HAVE A PART TO PLAY

He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.
Ephesians 4:16 (NLT)

I’ll start today’s blog with a musical analogy. Ever heard of the term “Harmony” ?

Vocal Harmony is when a group of singers are singing individual vocal parts in a song in pleasing blend; Together, each part forms the whole song or musical piece.

Generally, “The harmony of something is the way in which its parts are combined into a pleasant arrangement.” -Collins Dictionary

Another good analogy of different parts working as a ‘whole’ is the human body. Each body part plays a significant role that is fundamental to our overall health and productivity. If any part of our body malfunctions or fails, it could pose serious health risks or even lead to death if neglected. It’s important that each part of the body functions optimally.

“The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ.” 1 Corinthians 12:12 (NLT)

Like that ‘singer’ in the choir or ‘arm’ of the body, each one of us have been created by God to play our part in fulfilling his purpose on earth. You have something to give and a space to fill here on this earth. You should wake up each day with a sense of purpose because God created you for such a time as this. You were made to contribute in his grand scheme of things and your role is significant. 1 Corinthians 12:18 (NLT) says:

“But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it.”

“If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.” -1 Corinthians 12:17-18 (KJV)

No matter the expression you feel inclined to, you find purpose by being relevant in God’s kingdom plan for humanity. Whether through art, business, politics, music or even teaching from a pulpit. Ask yourself ; Is what I’m doing adding value to God’s kingdom? or going to impact a person’s life eternally?

I’m going to share more about this in coming blogs. For now, Here are a few tips to help you walk in your God-given purpose:

1. Get in the right frame of mind: Start by getting ready with the right frame of mind: You can do this through spiritual disciplines like prayer, meditation, worship and bible study. Let your heart be still to hear God’s voice. Build your spirit by giving yourself to prayer and God’s word because it’s one thing to know your purpose and assignment but another to have the Holy Spirit strengthening you to execute it.

2. Remove distractions: There may be certain things that don’t help you fulfill purpose on daily basis, be aware of them -big or small. Maybe working in a certain environment makes you more effective or maybe even your phone or social media is distracting to you. Minimize or completely eliminate whatever is a distraction to you, become more self-aware of what works for you and take advantage of it. Don’t always go against the grain, learn to flow with patterns and systems that work for you.

3. Take small steps: Start somewhere, if you’ve been sitting on idea for a while that you know in your heart is the leading of God; break it down into smaller pieces and start. E.g you have an idea for grand painting – start the sketch or prime the canvas. Get out of your comfort zone and take that step.

4. Speak!: This particular tip can be easily neglected in spite of probably being the easiest to do. Speak! There are so many scriptures that corroborate the power of speaking God’s word (Josh 1:8, Ps 1:2, Heb.13:15). God’s word is so powerful! Additionally we must realize that we war with prophecies. This means, we don’t just leave his word spoken over us in a book or our pretty journals; We speak it, we believe it and we see it come to pass.

Say this today – “I am the Light of the world!, I am LIGHT in my world!”

“And, oh, yes, tell Archippus, “Do your best in the job you received from the Master. Do your very best.”
Col. 4:17 MSG
